Social Action Opportunities
Service and humanitarian aid are hallmarks of the Frederick Church of the Brethren. This emphasis is based on numerous scriptures, including Matthew 25:37-40
"Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? When did you we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me…” - Matthew 25:37-40 The Frederick Church of the Brethren has an active Social Action Committee, providing a wide variety of opportunities for social service ministry:
- Alan P. Linton Jr. Homeless Shelter
- Brethren Service Center in New Windsor (an international relief “hub” sending food, clothing and medical supplies around the world).
- Church World Service (one of the largest relief agencies in the world, providing a wide array of humanitarian services to poor, dislocated folks around the globe).
- Food Pantry
- Habitat for Humanity
- Meat Canning (for hunger relief)
- Mission of Mercy (mobile clinic, positioned at our church, two Mondays a month, for the working poor).
- Religious Coalition (Frederick County multi-religious agency, providing material relief for the poor)
- Red Cross Blood Drive (housed at our church on a regular basis)
- The Angel Tree (a tree decorated at Christmas for needy folk. Ornaments correspond to a family/person "in need". Persons take an ornament and supply the gift written on the back.)
